Dr. Gwendolyn V. Kelly, MD in Charlottesville, Virginia

I have been seeing Dr. Kelly for years now. She is the sweetest and kindest doctor! She always makes me feel very comfortable and safe. She is gentle and genuinely cares about her patients, which is a characteristic that is hard to find in doctors. The front desk staff is always helpful and welcoming. Highly recommend

I had contemplated writing this for a few months but felt I should because I know I personally check reviews on doctors when it comes to a first time visit and such. I saw Dr. Kelly for roughly 7 years. At first I loved her. She seemed very informative and helpful even though she was very quick. During this past year I can't say the same. I visited in December of 2015 and expressed my concerns for a recurring yeast infection. I was treated and the problem resolved for a month. After a month it came back and continued to come back each and every month following (although I have an IUD and do not have a normal period I am pretty positive this was happened around my menses since it was the same time every month). In March of 2016 I returned to the office and expressed my concerns and even stated that I believed this was occurring with "what should be" my period and was told I would be tested for an STD even though I was very strongly against it (I have been in a faithful relationship for over 8 years). Needless to say, the test was negative and my problem went away after using Monistat. A month later, it was back again. This happened to me every single month until October and also began causing a lot of uncomfortable stomach issues. I went to see my general practitioner and discussed what I was going through for the past 9 months and he diagnosed me with a very strong, recurring yeast infection that had not properly been treated (a candida overgrowth which had also affected my stomach). I have always felt she was very helpful but this past year I have nothing good to say. I felt very let down and not properly cared for even when I had expressed such a deep concern for my issues and how they were occurring. Hopefully this will be helpful to some who are looking into a new gynecologist. Side note: she does not do any OB care at all so eventually if you plan on having children you'll have to switch anyway.
